Wow! What a weekend! Going to a Lose it For Life weekend conference is life changing for everyone who attends, even the counselors! So much information in so little time, yet we don’t want to miss one minute of teaching or group connection. One participant remarked, “I never thought I would share so much with strangers!” But the freedom of connection loosens the bonds of fear and allows us to move into a new life.
But now it’s the next week, we are back at home, our schedules have been challenged and the goals we set for ourselves have not been met. Don’t be discouraged! Expect the unexpected! Whatever you haven’t been able to do, begin to do it today.
Stubborn resistance will keep us locked in old behaviors and attitudes. How many times have you felt like giving up hope since you have returned home? You might say ‘you don’t know my husband and how difficult he can be’ or ‘you don’t know how demanding my work is.’ Both statements are true, yet if you are waiting for those things to change before you do, you’ll be stuck! Instead, begin by assessing where you can address these issues. Maybe its time to surrender to marital counseling, or begin praying about the issues in your marriage and work. Remember what Paul said in his letter to the Philippians church, (4:7-9) “Don’t be anxious about anything but pray about everything—with thanksgiving.”
Be aware of any expectations you may have that keep you from dealing with reality. The difference between expectations and reality is misery! We stay stuck in misery, wishing someone would do something, change something, or be someone different. The better thing to do is take a step back and see what you are doing to contribute to the problem. How are you participating in keeping the cycle going? Change starts today by doing one thing different– that’s a step toward reality!
What have you done differently since you returned from LIFL? Maybe it has something to do with creating a safe environment. Have you cleaned out your pantry and refrigerator of the tempting foods? Or maybe when you went to the store you paid attention to the labels of what you were buying. What about exercise? Some participants made the revelation that walking three times a week actually wasn’t working and that walking everyday was a change they needed to make. How about you?
What was the one thing you wanted to do differently and what is keeping you from making that step?
LIFL is about not being defined by what you weigh! You are loved with an everlasting love from the Everlasting God! When you recognize how much you are loved by God, you realize you are not what you weigh! The hope of Christ is in you! When you recognize the freedom of Christ, you can address the issues that are keeping you in bondage.
The website is full of information that can help you continue on this journey. You can participate in the chats, message boards, and the many articles like this one can continue the journey! There are also workbook exercises on the webpage that you can download and work through.
We want you to experience the freedom that weightlessness can give you! What will you do next? Even if you have had one failure after another this week following the conference, you can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is there to help you with the next step. He will give you the strength to do the thing that feels like you could never do (Phil 4:13)!
What’s next? The next right thing. For each of us that is going to be different, but for all of us the next right thing is the direction God wants us to go in. We will stumble and fail, that’s why we need a Savior! He is there to help us through this life for His Glory! So what’s next for you? Be encouraged and go on to the next right thing!
